I have to say, the discussion on this topic has been proving awesome. Sure, there’s research about breaking big tasks up into smaller chunks, about faking it ‘till you make it as we previously talked about, or even the 2004 film What the Bleep Do We Know? all that I could wax poetical about for days, but instead I’ll share three of my favorite answers thus far:

  • “One of two ways: The first is to have a motivation that supersedes my belief that what I want to do is impossible. Like keeping myself together for my daughter. The other way just sneaks up on you. Like hitchhikers guide, throwing yourself at the ground and missing so that suddenly you’re flying. You put it aside because it’s impossible, and while it’s sitting on the shelf, you’re growing and changing and your limitations are stretching. You might come across it on a dusty shelf and do it without even remembering how impossible it seemed before.“
  • “If it seems impossible, then you just haven’t used the right amount and combination of duct tape, WD-40, and bacon.“
  • “I tell myself “what the hell” and give it a try anyway. I do not really believe in impossible, just improbable. In the end, I tell my rational side that I am trying something very improbable, but I am doing it to satisfy that feeling of “just maybe” because if I don’t try the “impossible” I’ll always wonder what if.“
